Dollar-Cost Averaging: A Calm Way to Build a Position

Dollar-cost averaging means buying a fixed amount at regular intervals regardless of price. It sounds unambitious, and that is precisely its strength.
What the method actually does
Buying the same sum every period means you acquire more units when the price is low and fewer when it is high. The average entry price drifts below the average market price over the period, without requiring a single correct prediction.
Why timing the bottom rarely works
Bottoms are visible only afterwards. Waiting for one usually means sitting out the recovery that follows it, and the largest single-day gains in crypto tend to cluster close to the worst days. A schedule keeps you present for both.
Where the approach breaks down
Averaging into an asset that never recovers simply spreads a loss over more purchases. The method manages timing risk, not the risk of the asset itself, so it belongs with assets you would hold for years anyway.
Making it practical
Pick an interval you can sustain, size each purchase so a missed month changes nothing, and write down in advance what would make you stop. The plan matters more than the interval.
