How to Choose the Right Network for a USDT Transfer

USDT is issued on several blockchains at once, including Tron, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Solana and TON. The token has the same value everywhere, but each network has its own addresses, fees and confirmation times. The sender and the recipient must use the same network.
Common USDT networks
| Network | Token standard | Fee paid in | Address format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tron | TRC20 | TRX or energy | Starts with T |
| Ethereum | ERC20 | ETH | Starts with 0x |
| BNB Smart Chain | BEP20 | BNB | Starts with 0x |
| Solana | SPL | SOL | 32–44 Base58 characters |
How to pick a network
- Check which networks the receiving wallet or service accepts for deposits.
- Compare the current fees: Ethereum is usually the most expensive, while Tron, BNB Smart Chain and Solana are cheaper.
- Make sure you hold the native coin of the network to pay the fee, for example TRX on Tron or ETH on Ethereum.
- Select the same network on both the sending and the receiving side.
Why the address format is not enough
Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain use the same 0x address format, so a wallet will accept an address from either network. If you send BEP20 USDT to a service that only tracks Ethereum, the deposit will not be credited automatically, and getting it back depends on that service's support.
A quick safety check
Before sending a large amount, make a small test transfer and wait until it arrives. Copy the address with the copy button and compare its first and last characters before you confirm.
